(Kelly)

Good morning!! I can't believe it's been nearly a week since I've had something to post...I've been quite busy cleaning/organizing/getting ready for baby, and I've also become a little bit obsessed with sewing!! I have made a few quilts, and lots of burp cloths and bibs. I finally made some time to scrap, just to make sure I hadn't forgotten how!!
So here's a layout I made for the sketch challenge over at Let's Get Sketchy!  What I love about this layout is, I pretty much forced myself to use only what I had sitting out on my extremely messy desk. I had tons of scraps from recent projects, little flowers and embellishments strewn everywhere...So I challenged myself to use what I had sitting out, instead of making more of a mess! The whole time I was putting this together...I kept thinking, "this is all wrong...everything clashes!" But in the end, I think I was quite successful in  pulling all the colors together. It's quite the accomplishment, to me, to make Jillibean Soup, My Mind's Eye, and Echo Park all "work" on one layout!
Now, I have a question...I have noticed my tendency to really stray from sketches, and make them my own. While, in my opinion, I think this is a great thing to do, I often wonder if maybe the challenge sites don't like you to do this so much? Or is it perfectly ok? I think this layout is a pretty good example of that, the sketch really left a lot of "play" in it, being as it was a pretty simple sketch. And while I can still see the basics of the sketch in my layout, I definitely moved things around a bit and did my own thing.
What do you think? Is this perfectly ok to do, or do you think that sketch challenge participants should try to stick closer to the sketches? I'd appreciate any feedback :)
Anyway...here's my layout!! Another older photo of my Lilah, at about 3 months old. She looks so sweet...looks to me like she's thinking "I'm adorable and I know it!!"

Kelly, you gotta do YOU! :) I can totally see the elements of the sketch in your work -- and I think the point of a sketch challenge is to give you a basic "jumping off" point and then you have to let your creative juices take over from there. Besides, half the fun is in seeing all the different directions everyone takes from a simple sketch!!

Your work is beautiful! Your blog has quickly become one of my very favorites! :)

Oh this one is great! I love the layering and the curling of the layers!! I really like how you used those EP word tickets! I also think sketches are an inspiration point-- otherwise everyone's would like almost the same?! This is such a fun page! Hard to believe you will have another one of those cuties pretty soon...! Oh btw, I totally read "I'm adorable and I know it!" in the same tone as LMFAO! :)

LOVE IT!! Great job combining the lines...I think you made them work so well together!! I really love the flowers round your title area!! I think the sketch sites like to see us put our own spins on the layouts. I played along with Sketchy Thursdays for so long, that I noticed a trend in their choices. A lot of the layouts they chose didn't always follow the sketch exactly (and sometimes, I couldn't even tell they had used the sketch!!). :) I think that is the fun part, taking the sketch and making it your own and I think that's what they like to see at the sketch sites.

I think you did a great job and you can still see the sketch in there!! Love it when friends play along with us at lgs, makes me happy! I think it's ok to stray a little from the sketch, you have to make it your own...love the pictures and all the different patterns in this, gorgeous layout!!

As long as we can see the sketch within your page I think it's completely fine! Every entry we have at Lets Get Sketchy looks a little different and speaking for myself I love it! This page is beautiful, thanks for playing along.

Kelly this is really beautiful - those papers sure look good together! As for changing the sketches I know exactly what you mean. I start off meaning to keep to the sketch and often end up with something totally different. But, hey, as long as I like the end result thats totally fine with me because in the long term I am scrapping to create memories of my family and our lives not to keep exactly to a sketch :)))

Love love your layers and details. Such an awesome page and I think you have worked the sketch beautifully. I used to stick to the sketch where as now, my challenge is to mix it a bit to make it my own. I think if you are entering challenges, it is good to put your spin on the sketch, so long as the key elements are there I guess. Well that is what I think anyway....lol.

I just love your work Kelly! I think you did your style with the sketch. I really think it depends on the sketch site as to what they are looking for. Some want you to stick to the sketch, others say it's a starting point. I love what you do, keep being "you", because your fantastic! Can't wait to see photos of your new little addition!

Okay Blogger seems to be working again now! Love this layout Kelly. Think everything goes prefectly! I think challenge blogs like to be able to see the sketch to ensure that you were actually inspired by it but they certainly don't want you to stick to the sketch totally rigidly. If you look at the reveals at Creative Scrappers for example - you will see that the design team offers up a big variation as inspiration too...
